Happy Independence Day

Since I have a lot of American visitors, let me dedicate today's post to them as it's the 4th of July! Thanks to PDP friends (Guille, Michael, Stuart and Elizabeth), I had lunch at Blues Bar-B-Q, yesterday (Sunday). Co owned by delightful Diana from Texas, it is a real American restaurant where I discovered pulled BBQ pork, corn bread, genuine coleslaw and of course, an ice cream float! Now that's a festive occasion!

  1. Thank you, Eric! I love the bright colors in this photo. This is a perfectly arranged tray, and as a native Tennessean, I can verify that the barbecue looks genuinely American. :-D I hope you enjoyed the tasty feast!

  3. How thoughtful, Eric! It may be American, but it has been quite some time since I had a Coke float... Maybe I can remedy that tomorrow! Merci, mon ami.

  4. It may be American, but even Americans don't eat like that every day! (Or if they do, their days are numbered!)

Happy Independence Day, everyone, and thank you, Eric, for thinking of your American visitors.

  5. Thank you for the Independence Day wishes Eric, and I'm glad you enjoyed your American picnic food. Oh, and the ice cream float should be with Root Beer.

  8. Really a piece of the United States in Paris!! Sounds fun. Very colorful and festive on a sunny Parisian day.

Happy 235th 4th of July! Does it mean it is a day off in the US? Enjoy if so!

  9. Thanks, Eric, for letting folks know about Blues Bar-B-Q. As a former North Carolinian, I can vouch for the pulled pork - fabulous! The slaw is the best I've had this side of the Atlantic. I'm making myself hungry just by writing about it.

  11. How sweet! That is a very southern American meal, and looks quite yummy too. (But I have to know if the ice cream float was made with root beer or coke? Root beer is really the only way to go!) Today in the States is a day of parades and fireworks. Enjoy the last day of the long weekend here!

  12. To the regular "PDPers" (and the others!) who were impressed by the "optical illusion at Paris town hall" (PDP June 29th), here is a link to a portfolio including one aerial view:

  13. Merci for thinking of us Eric at your picnic.

@Flore, Oui! It is a national holiday, a 3-day weekend. However, some people in the US don't take the day off.

    Happy Independence Day, everyone!

  14. This is the only American restaurant Elizabeth and I have been to in Paris (in almost 3 years). And it was just like home. Thanks to Guille and Michael for telling us about it.

Now we're waiting for a Maryland blue crabcake restaurant. As if...

  15. OK, I know it's not exactly the healthiest food you can find on earth, but once in a while... If you want to keep your anticholesterol pills busy ;-)

  16. No offense, but this does not look like very good food! :( You need a proper hamburger and fries experience. Jump on a plane, we'll show you what a proper burger and fries look like! ;)

  18. Eric, I thought that you would remember pulled BBQ pork from Megan's wedding. But of course, there were so many different tastes there, I'm sure you missed it. Good to see that you had fun on the 4th. Gearing up for the
    14th?

  19. We were still in France on the 4th and our kids were so mad! "No fireworks? How could you do this to us?" We are home now and I send a big "Merci" to all of the lovely people of Paris who shared their beautiful city with us!
